An international conference on Climate Change and Sustainability took place at the small South Greenlandic town of Narsaq from April 20-23, 2008. A group of international scientists, local high school students and representatives from the local commnity were present and made working groups during the conference to know how climate change will affect people and animals in the region.
The local Earth Charter Group, Green Cross Sweden and WWF, Denmark sponsored the event, which resulted in the Earth Day statement. Download file
Una conferencia internacional sobre Cambio Climático y Sustentabilidad se llevó a cabo del 20 al 23 de abril de 2008, en un pequeño pueblo al Sur de Groelandia llamado Narsaq. Un grupo de cientíoficos internacionales, estudiantes de secundaria y representantes de la comunidad local estuvieron presentes y formarono grupos de trabajo durante la conferencia para averiguar de qué forma el cambio climático afectará a la gente y a los animales en la región.
El Grupo local de la Carta de la Tierra, Cruz Verde Suecia y WWF de Dinamarca patrocinaron el evento, el cual tuvo como resultado el documento de las Recomendaciones del Día de la Tierra. Download file
Earth Charter endorsers or users who are in the Amsterdam region in early May should consider putting the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) ‘Amsterdam Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency’ on their agenda. Apart from the general relevance of the conference, the Earth Charter will be the focus of a special high level event to be held on Thursday 8 May at 12.45pm. See the programme here
The purpose of the event, to be chaired by Ruud Lubbers, Earth Charter co-founder/Commissioner, will be to discuss how the Earth Charter and the GRI can work together to better advance their shared missions, and to discuss the Earth Charter guidance paper describing the complementary – and different – aspects of the Earth Charter, the GRI and the UN Global Compact.

Aparte de la relevancia general de la conferencia, la Carta de la Tierra será el centro de un evento especial de alto nivel a celebrarse el jueves 8 de mayo a las 12:45pm. Earth Charter International is pleased to announce the publication of its 2007 Annual Report. It is worth mentioning that this publication is just a synopsis of Earth Charter-based actions and provides a general overview of the activities of the Initiative throughout the world.
This Report will only be available in pdf format and includes the list of Earth Charter Affiliates as well as an organizational chart of the Initiative. We will soon have it also available in Spanish.

The Taiwan Ecological Stewardship Association (TESA), Earth Charter Affiliate in Taiwan, has developed the abovementioned material. This series consist of four volumes. The title of one of the volumes is: “From Land Ethics to Earth Charter.” The volumes are in Taiwanese and have 1,192 pages. The editor of this series is Nancy Tzu-Mei Chen, general secretary and founder of TESA. The content is mainly intended as reference reading for the general education on environmental ethics related courses in university, and can be very informative also for the school teachers, churches or NGOs.

It is a pleasure to share with you the launch of the book "Histórias de Aprender e Ensinar para Mudar o Mundo" (Stories to learn and to teach how to change the world). This publication is the result of the project called “Jovem Cidadão Amigo da Natureza” (Young Citizen Friend of Nature) which took place during 2006 and 2007 in Sao Paulo. The main stream of the project was founded entirely on the applicability of the Earth Charter principles within school activities. The Charter was used as a pedagogical instrument during the whole project.
Es un placer compartir con ustedes el lanzamiento del libro "Histórias de Aprender e Ensinar para Mudar o Mundo" (Historias para aprender y enseñar cómo cambiar el mundo). Esta publicación es el resultado del proyecto llamado “Jovem Cidadão Amigo da Natureza” (Jóvenes ciudadanos amigos de la naturaleza), el cual se llevó a cabo entre el 2006 y el 2007 en Sao Paulo. La línea principal del proyecto fue fundamentada enteramente en la aplicabilidad de los principios de la Carta de la Tierra dentro de las actividades de las escuelas. La Carta fue utilizada como instrumento pedagógico durante todo el proyecto.
This book by Colin Soskolne, contains 27 chapters, sorted into eight parts that represent a broad range of perspectives and experiences focused on the many dimensions of human-environment interaction. Part I brings together government with ecology and economy as support for human well-being. Part II addresses globalization and its impact on the human condition and human rights. Part III looks at governance alternatives. Part IV examines treaties and covenants and sets forth the Earth Charter, the adoption of which will move mankind towards sustainability and peace. Part V itself is divided into four parts, offering far-raging discussion of ideology and insights related to alternative governance, with emphasis on the Kyoto Protocol and failures to fulfill it, on access to food and water, on social forces, and on the culture environment.

The art exhibition entitled "Llanto Verde" (Green Crying) will be exhibited at the Tabasco Planetary 2000 located in the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico for 30 days, from 4 April 2008 onwards. The paintings, employing a wide range of media and styles, are based on the 16 principles of the Earth Charter. It took the artist, Architect Lorena Priego Fonseca, a year to finish the art work, thanks to the support of the Federal Government and the State of Tabasco.
La exhibición de arte titulada "Llanto Verde" será exhibida durante 30 días en el Planetario Tabasco 2000 en Villahermosa, Tabasco, México, del 4 de abril del 2008 en adelante. Las pinturas, en diferentes formatos y soportes, fueron inspiradas en los 16 principios de la Carta de la Tierra. Le tomó a la artista, Arquitecta Lorena Priego Fonseca, un año para completar el trabajo, gracias al apoyo del Gobierno Federal y del Estado de Tabasco.

Earth Charter U.S. (ECUS) invites you to host a Climate Change Community Summit on October 11, 2008 and join a global community of 58 cities in celebrating the International Year of Planet Earth.
