Mission

The mission of the Earth Charter Initiative is to promote the transition to sustainable ways of living and a global society founded on a shared ethical framework that includes respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, universal human rights, respect for diversity, economic justice, democracy, and a culture of peace.

The Earth Charter at a local level is a civil society group.  In the city of Marratxí with 33.000 inhabitants disseminated within numerous towns near Palma, capital of the island, there is an association called "Gent de Marratxí".  Their central purpose is to promote and exert citizens’ active participation in the life of the community.  Their motto is "Another world is possible, another Marratxí too.  Think globally, act locally".  Their Internet page offers the Earth Charter (complete version and children's version) as a base of reflection and action at:
