The mission of the Earth Charter Initiative is to promote the transition to sustainable ways of living and a global society founded on a shared ethical framework that includes respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, universal human rights, respect for diversity, economic justice, democracy, and a culture of peace.

Eighth e-GLO 2 session



Earth Charter International’s semester-long, online sustainability leadership course, e-GLO 2, has come to an end. e-GLO 2, ‘Earth Charter Guiding Leaders Towards Sustainability Action’, had its grand finale on Saturday, January 30th 2010.

This Open House event attracted more than 60 people from all over the world to follow the success of the second Earth Charter online course.

This 2-hour-long, multimedia, online event featured a brief introduction to e-GLO, guest speakers, poem by Jessica White (e-GLO 2 participant), live interactive discussions and presentation of certificates. Speakers included
  • Mirian Vilela, Executive Director of the Earth Charter International Secretary and the Center for Education for Sustainable Development at UPEACE, Costa Rica / Brazil
  • Fernanda Baumhardt, Communication Specialist for One "Earth" Amsterdam, The Netherlands / Brazil
  • Irwin Oostindie, over the past 20 years, he has founded festivals, publications, art centres, and is now behind W2, a media arts centre, Canda

30 young activist
from 20 different countries participated in e-GLO 2, ‘Earth Charter Guiding Leaders Towards Sustainability Action’, during Sep 2009 – Jan 2010. Read participants’ exciting testimonials here. Be aware though – they might inspire you to join the next e-GLO!

Out of these 30 participants, 15 were awarded with an e-GLO certificate. In order to receive a certificate, the participant has attended the sessions regularly and has been actively engaged in the program. In addition the participant has satisfactorily completed the e-GLO homework assignments.
