Mission

The mission of the Earth Charter Initiative is to promote the transition to sustainable ways of living and a global society founded on a shared ethical framework that includes respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, universal human rights, respect for diversity, economic justice, democracy, and a culture of peace.

Climate Smart Leaders

Adopt patterns of production, consumption, and reproduction that safeguard Earth's regenerative capacities, human rights, and community well-being.

Climate Smart Leaders Program is a program created by Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (YPB), an Earth Charter Affiliate from Indonesia.   This program, launched in February 2010, encourages young people (15-24 years old) to take action in combating climate change by offering them opportunities to volunteer their time or propose projects to be implemented with organizations working in the field of sustainability.

YPB believes it is strategic to involve the youth in the efforts of securing the planet for their future.  This year, the program received 226 proposals from across Indonesia. Through a tight selection process, there were 24 finalists of young leaders with their remarkable project initiatives (12 finalists were from senior high schools and the other 12 finalist were university students).

YPB and Yayasan Inovasi Teknologi Indonesia (INOTEK) in partnership with the National Council for Climate Change and Earth Charter International, offered a 5-day leadership and project development training or CSL CAMP, with the 24 finalist young leaders.  This camp took place in Educamp  Ancol, Jakarta, on  4-9 July 2010.

The Climate-Smart Leaders’ Camp aims to equip the finalists with more knowledge and skills that they can use to improve their project propsals. It is expected that after the CAMP session, the participants can have a more efficient and effective project implementation and in turn have larger positive impacts.
