Mission

The mission of the Earth Charter Initiative is to promote the transition to sustainable ways of living and a global society founded on a shared ethical framework that includes respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, universal human rights, respect for diversity, economic justice, democracy, and a culture of peace.

Earth Charter Meeting in the Netherlands

An Earth Charter meeting will take place on 1 and 2 December, 2008 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) and is being organized by NCDO and Earth Charter International.

 

The purpose of this meeting is to raise the profile of the Earth Charter, offer a space to dialogue about the role of the Earth Charter in helping to address the key challenges we face today, as well as make it part of the Celebrations of 60th Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights and the International Year of Planet Earth.

 

Such occasion will gather members of the Earth Charter Commission, Earth Charter Council members, Affiliates from Europe, members of the Earth Charter Youth Initiative and some special guests who may join the Earth Charter Initiative in our strategy of decentralized empowerment and reaching out to the wider community.
