The mission of the Earth Charter Initiative is to promote the transition to sustainable ways of living and a global society founded on a shared ethical framework that includes respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, universal human rights, respect for diversity, economic justice, democracy, and a culture of peace.

In 1999 the League for the Defense of the Environment (LIDEMA) worked on a national effort to promote the Earth Charter in Bolivia. They encouraged participation from a variety sectors in Bolivian civil society, government and legislative bodies to give input for the Earth Charter consultation process. However since 2006 LIDEMA has not been very active in the EC Initiative.
 
Since 2007, the PUMA Foundation, has been exploring ways to promote the Earth Charter through its educational projects and its many other areas of activity.
