An Earth Charter Youth Group called ECYG Finland was established in December 2006. This youth group has translated the Earth Charter into Finnish and promoted the Earth Charter in Finland, specifically at the University of Jyvaskyla.

Since September 2007 Earth Charter International has had a flow of interns from the University of Jyvaskyla. They work for 6 months at the secretariat.

In March 2009 a group of 20 voluntary translators started a process of translating the Earth Charter’s country web page, The Earth Charter Guidebook for Teachers and EC-Assess into Finnish.

In addition, the Earth Charter International Youth Facilitator, Jaana Laitinen, is from Finland.

I am glad to announce that the Earth Charter International will be hiring Jaana Laitinen to become the liaison and facilitator of our youth network from the beginning of February 2009. I am very happy that Jaana has accepted our offer and I invite you all to join me in warmly welcoming Jaana in her new position.
Jaana Laitinen and Daniel Korpela are interning full-time with Earth Charter International here in Costa Rica for 6 months.
The book Interwoven Stories: The Fabric of Community was launched amid a clamour of excitement at the University for Peace in Costa Rica (UPEACE). On 30 April, the outdoor cafeteria became alive with music and bodies as students, staff and faculty members of the UPEACE community piled in.
In order for the Earth Charter to reach a truly global audience, its translation into numerous languages is essential. Congratulations to the Earth Charter Youth Group at the University of Jyväskylä for producing a professional Finnish translation of the Earth Charter!
