In 1998 the Earth Charter was part of an effort that launched a national commitment document titled “Ethics, Transparency and Sustainable Development”. The Government and civil society representatives elaborated on it with the purpose of stimulating understanding of a series of ethical values based on the vision for sustainable development, which will itself help generate a deep process of change. This declaration included the commitment of the country to implement Agenda 21 and the Earth Charter.

During 1999 and 2000 the National Council for Sustainable Development (CONADES) organized a series of seminars and workshops in various parts of the country. As a part of these activities, the principles of the Earth Charter have been addressed to foster its implementation at all levels.

First Earth Charter Youth Group, GJCT Asociación de jóvenes por una Honduras mejor, was formed in Honduras in July 2010.
