In January 2000, the Hong Kong Sustainable Development Forum (HKSDF) hosted the first public lecture on the Earth Charter Global Initiative in Hong Kong. This organization has established a taskforce on both the Earth Charter and Agenda 21. In 2008, HKSDF reaffirmed their commitment with the Earth Charter Initiative, including in their website information about the Earth Charter.

Research on the Earth Charter has been carried out at the City University of Hong Kong. In 2000 Soka Gakkai Hong Kong held an Earth Charter day with the participation of 300 people. The event’s theme was “the Earth Charter and the youth”. This organization has had a regular column in its newsletter devoted to the Earth Charter.

In 2011, the Centre for Environment and Development Studies became an Earth Charter Affiliate.  They have been collaborating with other ECI Partners, like SGI with their Earth Charter exhibition.  They have also helped young leaders to participate in different conferences, to help in their training to become sustainable leaders.

This event was officiated by YB Senator Tuan Gan Ping Sieu, Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports, and took place from 9 April to 1 May 2011.
Welcome to the Centre for Environment and Development Studies!
