Mission

The mission of the Earth Charter Initiative is to promote the transition to sustainable ways of living and a global society founded on a shared ethical framework that includes respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, universal human rights, respect for diversity, economic justice, democracy, and a culture of peace.

Youth

"Honor and support the young people of our communities, enabling them to fulfill their essential role in creating sustainable societies."

The Earth Charter Initiative invites all young people to incorporate the Earth Charter as part of your activities, studies, discussion groups, workshops or work. You are encouraged to explore ways to use and promote the Earth Charter as appropriate and according to your context.

As part of the Earth Charter Initiative there is a bold, diverse and dynamic action-oriented youth network that promotes the principles of the Earth Charter among young people.
This youth network involves active young people from over 100 countries, with more than 90 Earth Charter Youth Groups (ECYGs) and numerous partners around the world. International Youth Facili
tator offers guidance to the youth network.

Earth Charter Youth Groups organize local sustainability and peace building projects to bring the Earth Charter alive. Diverse individual members seek to embody the Earth Charter’s principles in their daily lives, share the Charter with others, and participate in local action projects, as well as global decision-making processes. For more on this see EC Youth Groups profiles

Earth Charter Youth Task Force is a group of international youth working together online to promote the Earth Charter globally among the young people. The Task Force is open to everyone!

Expanding Earth Charter Initiative into your community
We encourage young people to take up the commitment and responsibility of initiating Earth Charter activities in their home communities to expand the knowledge on sustainability and the values and principles for it. More information: How can you participate in the Earth Charter youth network? or Form an EC Youth Group.
