Earth Charter International has published the updated and comprehensive Earth Charter Initiative Handbook.

Of special interest is section IV. ECI Strategies and Focal Areas, which details the new strategy for "decentralized empowerment for scaling up," specifically through the formation of Task Forces in Business, Education, Media, the United Nations, Youth, and Religion.

Section XI. contains a list of statements prepared by Steven C. Rockefeller in consultuation with various ECI Council members and Advisors for clarifying the Earth Charter's position on the diversity of religious worldviews as well as the sensitive issues of sexual orientation and responsible reproduction.
