The year 2006 was designated a "transition" year for the Earth Charter Initiative, with the aim of significantly expanding its global presence and impact, and building on the previous five years of formal endorsement and grassroots support. Many aspects of the Initiative were restructured, ranging from the international network to the internet presence. As part of this restructuring, a new office opened in Stockholm (complementing the work of the existing office in Costa Rica) and Alan AtKisson assumed the position of Earth Charter International Transition Director.
