This is a link to an event on the Earth Charter that will take place in 2004 in Mexico. Since the publication of "Our Common Future," in 1987, and Agenda 21 in 1992, sustainable development has been discussed in many contexts. In response, leading educators have developed and signed educational declarations and charters to guide their educational policies and procedures. One of the most comprehensive and far-reaching of these documents is the "Earth Charter." It is being used as a guide by educators, worldwide. Additionally, in December 2002, under the leadership from Japan and more than 40 other nations, UNESCO designated the decade 2005 - 2015 as the "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development."
