e-GLO Program Overview
Note: Sessions take place on Saturdays from 14:00 - 16:00 GMT, followed by an hour of informal conversation, networking and possible bonus topics.
Session 1: Intro to e-GLO
5 April
Speakers: Mike Sheehan, Dominic Stucker, Camila Godinho, DJ(s) (TBC)
Content Flow:

• Inspirational video(s)
• Intro of lead facilitators and today’s speakers
• Intro to e-GLO (MS and DS)
• Intro of 3-5 participants on the screens
• Interactive workshop on Earth Charter and sustainability values (DS and CG)

Skills/Knowledge:
• Using HIAE online tech: polls, collaborative games using video
Homework:
Take and 3-5 digital photos (jpg or gif) of your community and upload them onto the HIAE platform.
In 50 to 100 words tell us about yourself and the work you are involved with in your community.
Suggested bio format:

Encouraged: upload video/s to YouTube (practice and content).
Session 2: Intro to One Another
19 April

• Intro of rest of participants using Polls
• Intro to online social networking sites (DS)
• Preparation for homework. Have the group come up with 5-10 questions to use when interviewing community members.

Skills/Knowledge:
• Using TIG, social change networking site
• Using HIAE online tech: small group discussion, polls
Homework:
Create a profile on Facebook and/or TIG and join the e-GLO Group on either site. Create a YouTube profile.
Create and upload to YouTube (100mb limit) a 3-5 minute video interview. Use the 5-10 questions the group came up with during this session.
If video is inaccessible take 3-5 pictures (jpg) and record answers to be sent to us in an email.
Session 3: Media for Peacebuilding – Youth Voice within the Global Community
26 April
Speaker: Karim El Mantawi

• View homework highlights and tips, tools and techniques
• Intro to media landscape, peacebuilding, getting your voice heard
• Discussion on key community development issues
• Intro to democratization of information: from information war to information peace
• Workshop on blogging
• Prepare for homework

• Knoweldge of media landscape and democratization of information
• Creating and managing a blog: text, photos, comments
Homework:
Create a vision statement for your project. A short pitch that creates excitement about your work.
Using pictures and text, create a blog entry on the e-GLO Project Development Blog at blogger.com, sharing a local project you are currently planning and would like to implement.
Session 4: Grassroots Community Organizing
3 May
Speakers: Karim El Mantawi, Camila Godinho, Mike Sheehan
Content Flow:

• Feedback on project blogs (KEM) and view 3-5 blog entries
• Interactive discussion drawing on participant knowledge of community organizing – dialogue, community assessment, project concept and design, resource mobilization, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning, etc (CG)
• Presentation on experiential learning. Working with groups and creating high functioning teams (MS)
• Presentation on how to run a meeting – in-person and online (MS)
• e-GLO Community check-in. What are your wants and needs?

Homework:
Based on what you have learned from other participants today, add a section to your blog entry entitled “New Ideas for Moving Forward.”
Then, make comments on other participants’ blog entries with feedback and advice.
Session 5: Addressing Key Challenges through Social Entrepreneurship and Wiki Technology
17 May

• Clips and discussion of interviews with sustainability leaders on major environmental and economic challenges (JG)
• Stories of social entrepreneurship as a solution (JG)

• Workshop on Wikipedia: the power of democratization of information (TBD)
• Case study: Wiki tech: 1) YAC online courses (SG II), 2) Alliance for Intergenerational Partnership for Sustainability (DS)

Homework:
Design a social entrepreneurship venture, post it on the e-GLO Blog as a new entry, and solicit feedback.
Comment on other participants’ social entrepreneurship ventures.

Post or edit a Wiki entry on your organization, community, cause or project, etc.

Session 6: Making and Marketing Social and Environmental Documentaries
31 May

Content Flow:
• Personal intro to documentary film-making, with screening (DJ)
• Discussion: deriving principles and tips from experience: ethics, pre-production preparation, planning, budgets, fundraising, storyline, structure, and marketing(DJ)
• IUCN as one place to publicize videos
• Workshop on YouTube: uploading, editing, and posting videos
Skills/Knowledge:
• Principles and practical tips of documentary film-making
• Using YouTube
Homework:
Create a 2-5 minute video interview of an elder in your community and/or about your organization, project, cause, etc.
Publicize it on YouTube and embed your video in the e-GLO Blog as a new entry.
View and comment on others’ videos.
Session 7: Animated Youth Voice
7 June

• Participate in an on-line Poll to find out what issues are most important to the large group
• Form groups and create a Whiteboard Poster with your group on one of the top issues
• Share posters
• Workshop: How to make an animation film (MV)
• Show winning films from the Reel Youth Film Festival (MV)
• Tips for first time film makers (MV)
• How to bring the Reel Youth Film Festival to your community as a fundraiser for your organization or a cause you care about (MV)
• Call for films for Earth Charter Youth Initiative international publication (LJ)

• Clearer understanding of the potential for using video in addressing issues
• Knowledge of how to make an animation film
Homework:
Find the most powerful short film for social change that you can, and post it on the e-GLO Blog with a description of what makes it so powerful for you.
View other people’s postings and make comments.

Create your own animated film.
Session 8: Live, Interactive, Multi-media Event Open to the Global Public
14 June
