Localizing Sustainable Lifestyles and the Earth Charter
This blog entry came to us from Robert Sagun in the Philippines.
The Philippine Resources for Sustainable Development, Inc. (PRSD), a youth-oriented NGO active in the fields of social empowerment, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability, recently partnered with the Young Artists Fellowship for the Environment, Inc. (YAFE), Otesha and other environmental NGOs in a 5-day bike tour around Laguna, a rapidly urbanizing province adjacent to the Laguna Lake – a major Philippine water reserve threatened by industrial pollution and overfishing - spreading the principles of the Earth Charter and building consciousness on sustainable lifestyles and responsible consumption among young people and local communities.
PRSD is likewise entering into a formal dialogue with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, the sole umbrella of the 1,502 municipalities in the country, for the endorsement of the Earth Charter and mainstreaming of the Earth Charter principles in local development plans. Lastly, PRSD is in the process of renewing its partnership with the Voice of the Youth Network (www.voty.org) for the next phase of its highly successful radio programme on “Youth and the MDGs”.
