Live Reports: Earth Charter Youth at the IUCN World Conservation Congress
We are blogging live from Barcelona, Spain, where a great number of people from the sustainability movement - including many lovers of the Earth Charter - are participating in the IUCN's World Conservation Congress, held every four years. The event has attracted some 8,000 people from over 180 countries, making it the largest environmental event of the year. The first week, referred to as the public "Forum," is packed with approximately 800 different events.
As you know, Earth Charter is offering workshops on intergenerational partnership, education, and our newly-published ethics-based assessment tool, EC-Assess. Other Earth Charter-related events have been organized by Affiliates and Council Members, and we have also submitted a Motion on intergenerational partnership to the IUCN General Assembly for consideration. The Motion, if passed, will inform the IUCN's program for the next four years and beyond. It builds upon the Resolution in which IUCN endorsed the Earth Charter at their last Congress in Bangkok.
I am here with another Youth Initiative member, Biozid Jessorey, an Earth Charter Youth Group Coordinator from Bangladesh. Biozid works in media and is also the Director of the NGO he founded, Center for Human Development. I got to know him when he participated in e-GLO, the online course on digital storytelling and community leadership we offerred earlier this year.
Our goal is to write a short blog entry to you each night, with the day's highlights. Please click on any day below, as they become available:
5 Oct: The Opening of the Congress: Making the Impossible Seem Possible
6 Oct: A Compass for Navigating the Congress
7 Oct: Some Earth Charter Contributions to the Forum
8 Oct: Inspiration from Young Sustainability Leaders
We look forward to responding to comments or questions you post on the above briefings!
Daily reporting from TerraViva, including photo galleries and videos. Also, I encourage you to interact with other bloggers at the Congress, ECYI friends Douglas Williamson (e-GLO Speaker and documentary film maker) and Frits Hesselink (IUCN Commission on Education and Communication member and consultant).

Wild Foundation acknowledges your bold efforts. Please send a youth delegate to "WILD 9," November 6-13, 2009 in Merida, Mexico to represent Earth Charter's operating principles for the youth emerging as tomorrow's conservation leaders.
Cheers,
